DESCRIPTION:A Rogaine is a type of long-distance orienteering race where pa
 rticipants find controls (checkpoints) in any order within a fixed time. *

 mat\, a 3-hour format \,a 3-hour format for trail runners\, and a 60 minut
 e version. • The map that we will use will extend from Riverdale to Cany
 on City and from the Yukon River / Schwatka Lake to the Grey Mountain Road
 . It will include all main trails and some old trails. • There will be 4
 0 controls (checkpoints) out there\, with points ranging from 5 to 40 per 
 control. Route choice and which controls to visit is up to participant! 
 • For the 3-hour runner course (20 km approx.)\, there will be controls 
 on trails and control near trails and obvious features (large depression i
 n the forest some 200 m near a trail). • Most high-point controls will b
 e deep in the forest and will be part of the Rogaine activity. • Partici
 pants chose which controls to visit and their planned route\, but must ret
 urn within the time allotted. 30 minutes is given for pre-planning before 
 the start.

DESCRIPTION:EVENT SUMMARYOver 40 participants braved the dark and somewhat 
 rainy night\, to participate in this year's annual Spook O!  Overall\, it 
 was great to see the enthusiasm with some competitors even arriving in cos
 tume!  Lots of participants headed out in groups (there is safety in numbe
 rs after all) to enjoy the thrill of night orienteering and a spooky touch
  of Hallowe'en.  Big thank you to all the helpers:  Larry (set-up/control 
 pick-up)\, Ellice (set-up &amp\; starts)\, Sasha (control pick-up)\, and J

 night orienteering event returns again to Uplands Park!   Test out your  n
 ight navigation skills while at the same time enjoying some Hallowe'en sur
 prises located throughout the park.   This annual event has become popular
 \, so this year we will be limiting participation to a maximum of 75 parti
 cipants.  Please register early to avoid disappointment.Courses will be ba
 sed on the Score O format (find as many control flags as you can in any or
 der within a set time limit) and will be offered at three levels:Easy Scor
 e O (Max 5-8 controls) -  For those new to orienteering and/or those young
 sters furthest from the grave\, this course features most control flags lo
 cated safely on trails in lit areas or on prominent features. Access and n
 avigation will be straight forward using the map. Chances of survival are 
 moderate to high.  Max time on course 30 minutes.Intermediate Score O (10-
 15 controls) - For those who have some experience in orienteering\, but ma
 y be new to running around in the dark and dodging  scary things.  Mostly 
 easy controls\, but some areas of tricky navigation.  Max time on course 6
 0 minutes.Advanced Score O (15-20 controls) - For those who have attended 
 previous night orienteering events\, and ready to visit the most remote sp
 ooky corners of the haunted fields of Uplands Park.  Courses suited to tho
 se with the confidence to navigate well and good fitness to outrun any mon
 sters they may have stirred up in the process.  Max time on course 75 minu
 tes.Special Note:  This year we will see the return of our ghostly 'Roving
  Control' - expected to roam the park at random.  Approach it if you dare\
 , which you should really so that you can get the most controls possible!

 dy lantern\, torch (ok\, maybe not the flaming kind) headlamp or flashligh

 f rain turned out to be fake news thankfully and the weather was perfect! 
  One deranged individual (not an Orienteer) decided to move control #13 in
 to the woods\, so many runners couldn't find it - we gave everyone credit 
 for this control.  Thanks to Roger who actually witnessed the guy moving i
 t and yelled at him.  This perfectly illustrates why we can't have nice th
 ings (ie run SportIdent / SI electronic timing downtown.).  Thanks to ever

 rst ever Downtown Sidney Trivia O.  Results are now posted.  Congratulatio
 ns to those who managed to find all controls within the prescribed time li

 rurban Campus. Layritz Park and the adjoining areas of Camosun and the Pac
 ific Sports Institute offer a unique blend of urban as well as some wilder

 series\, but need more to ensure we have sufficient numbers to make the su
 mmer WET series worthwhile.  We are hoping to meet a minimum of 20 members

 the series goes ahead.This is a multi-week training series intended for ac
 tive club members looking to practice and improve their orienteering. Ever
 y week we will have a training session or orienteering event scheduled to 
 occur at one of our local parks. These weekly training sessions will take 
 place in a variety of locations throughout the Victoria area and will incl
 ude a mix of practical training exercises along with some fun orienteering
  events.   Sorry - no newcomers or beginners please.  This series is open 
 only to those who have already participated at a few of our past orienteer
 ing events and are an active member of the Victoria Orienteering Club.Inte
