5908 Nakkertok 2025-10-26 10:00:00 2025-10-26 14:00:00 61 OOC http://www.ottawaoc.ca/ https://ooc.whyjustrun.ca/events/view/5908 Information Welcome to the (almost) annual fall orienteering challenge at the Nakkertok Nordic Ski Club in Cantley, Quebec. I have lost track of how many events that I have staged there (including ski-O’s) but it’s at least 20. Yikes! I keep thinking that I will run out of course-setting ideas but it’s such a detailed area I can usually find some interesting new control sites and routes to those features. We will have access to the main ski chalet for registration where you can stay warm and dry while mingling with the other participants. In the afternoon, the Nakkertok Adventure Group will use our controls for their annual Fall Fun Run – in a score-O format. Course and Terrain Notes The area has, of course, an extensive network of XC ski trails that are expertly groomed in the winter for racing and recreational skiers. There is also a network of snowshoe trails as well as a few mountain bike trails. All the “summertime-visible” trails are included on the map. The snowshoe trails are identified in the terrain by occasional yellow and blue markers. Most of these trails are not on the map because they are not identifiable in the summer terrain. In the fall, with all the leaves down, it may be difficult to find any of the narrow and indistinct trails. Trail Note 1: There will be a trail run on Saturday by the Skinouk club that will probably expose some of the minor trails. So expect a mixed-bag of “visible” trails on Sunday. Trail Note 2: Nakkertok has started to rough-cut some new trails at the north end of the map. You (probably) will not cross them but you might see the entrances. Yes, there are big hills. And beautiful open woods that are very dry. Small marshes have disappeared but you can usually see where they were from the vegetation – or lack of. There is a lot of rock, contour, and vegetation detail so I usually print all the course maps at 1:7500. Safety note. It’s hunting season (bow right now) so the courses have been designed to keep you well inside the private Nakkertok property where hunting is prohibited. I have used the purple out-of-bounds symbol to indicate the areas of concern adjacent to the Nakkertok property. Not all of the terrain used by the trail network is owned by the club.
